Welcome to my blog!

Auggie is employee of the month EVERY month!

Oh hello!

Glad you could make it and happy to have you here.

I’m Emily! Long time reader, first time blogger. I figured this the perfect opportunity to introduce myself and have my current (and future!) clients and followers get to know me a little better. So here goes nothing..

As far back as my memory will allow I’ve been absolutely and undeniably obsessed with animals. Not in a weird way, definitely a sweet and almost normal way. My aunt had a Boxer dog named Striker and when I was just a little one I’d curl my fingers inwards and towards my palms making my hands into “paws” and I’d march over on all fours and shove poor Striker right out of his dog bed. Of course when my fingers were out straight I was a human but when they were tucked in I was a dog. See? Fool proof logic.

When I wasn’t being a dog, I was drawing them. Loads of them. I was manifesting having a dog by drawing them over and over again way before the book “the Secret” was ever on my radar. This also included paintings, full illustrated children’s books, tile art.. you name it! By age seven my mum had me in an after school watercolour class where things really started to evolve.

The teacher of that lovely class was Donna Semft and she gave me my first watercolour pallet. A pallet I still have today, I might add. It’s a little worse for wear but she’s hanging in there. She also introduced me to classic artists like Rembrandt and DaVinci. I learned to blend and highlight and that black wasn’t really black in watercolour but merely a melody of blues and purples. I didn’t look back.

I grew up primarily in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia and attended a Fine Arts based high school which housed grades all the way from kindergarten to grade 12. I majored in visual arts but dabbled in some photography and eventually took some post secondary courses at Emily Carr University and Langara College. Following that I jumped into a series of jobs I hated, fell in love, moved away from home, fell out of love and came back. Art peppered my life here and there but I never made a go of it for real until just a couple years ago, actually.

These days my pallet and I live on the beautiful west coast of British Columbia Canada. I have a wonderful scruffy terrier coworker named Auggie who’s more than happy to lay back and observe the goings on of studio life. I’ve painted countless pets, had my artwork on a Kombucha label, painted art for day of details at weddings and as of recently have just been officially published as an illustrator in the United States in “the Village Dog” by P.J. Hartenaus!

The best part of my job is hearing back from lovely clients who are thrilled with my work and spreading joy to those around me through my paintbrush. I love creating something that can make someone so happy.

I’m looking forward to sharing here with you my interests, my favourite art supplies, my recommendations and tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way.

I hope you’ll stick around and hey, maybe we’ll even work together one day!

XO

Emily
